What are the primary uses of social media for business? Customer engagement and earned media are. By providing high quality content that is easily shareable, companies can build large active audiences on social media. Over 900 social media users were surveyed by Fractl and Buzzstream to find out why users unfollow, and what behaviors companies should avoid.

The results from the surveyed participants were as follows: 21 percent said they unfollow brands that post repetitive or boring content. While 19 percent said that posting more than six times per day on Facebook would lead to an unfollow. Other activities such as unrelated content to the brand and offensive activites caused users to unfollow.
